Voting Rights in the U.S.: Contesting the Right to Vote

This undergraduate seminar explores the law governing the right to vote in the United States. More specifically, it scrutinizes the way in which the law has shaped the structure of American political participation in determining who can and cannot vote. Topics include the constitutional right to vote; development of the one-vote, one-person doctrine; women’s suffrage; Black voting rights; representation of minority interests in democratic bodies; and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
