About C4

Welcome! Join us!

C4 was founded in 1996 by a group of chemistry graduate students in response to a need for assistance in the transition between graduate school and the workplace. It is a student run organization whose aim is to provide forums for very specific training and education in areas such as

  1. effective public speaking,
  2. giving clear visual aid presentations,
  3. dynamic teaching,
  4. preparing for job interviews,
  5. writing effective resumes,
  6. how and where to gain access to important resources in career choices,
  7. exploring alternative careers for Ph.D. chemists

All of the events scheduled are based on an academic year running September - June. Some events listed in the events calendar, such as resume workshops, will be repeated for the forthcoming semesters at the same relative time. This forum is meant to supplement, complement and add to the already rich resources the Department of Chemistry provides including recruitment, colloquia, special named seminars and guest speakers/visiting scholars. To view the type of functions planned by this club, please peruse the events calendar from past years, which includes descriptions and pictures from speakers, workshops, and field trips.

We welcome any and all input. Although originally intended for the pre-doctoral candidates in the Department of Chemistry, Postdocs, associate research scientists, junior and adjunct professors and others have provided pearls of wisdom and we encourage any level of participation in these forums.

Everyone who attends C4 events is a member of C4 – from any department, from any school, from anywhere.

Anyone can join the Executive Committee of C4 by virtue of attending the next meeting and assisting in event planning.
