What is CILP? Community Impact is the umbrella Community Service organization at Columbia overseeing 24 individual groups dealing with Community Education, Youth Programs, Homeless Assitance and Advocacy, and Jobs and Empowerment. The 900 student volunteers serve over 8000 people Columbia's surrounding neighborhoods. For more information please visit Community Impact's website. A subset of Community Impact, the Community Impact Leadership Program (CILP) is an opportunity for freshman from CC, SEAS, and Barnard to become involved both in the greater leadership of Community Impact as well as a way to learn about being leaders on campus. In addition to their membership in CILP, most CILPers continue to be involved with a specific CI group of their choice. This two semester program teaches valuable leadership skills to students through planning CILP sponsored events, helping the CI execs plan CI events, and producing bi-annual newsletters. Additionally, students in the program learn about leadership on a broader scale through organized meeting with other leadership centers on campus including career services. Applications for CILP will be available in early October, and we encourage everyone to apply. Please email cilp@columbia.edu if you have any questions or to request an application.
