Biography
Haim Waisman is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (CEEM) at Columbia University.
His research interests are in Computational Mechanics, broadly
defined as the intersection of mechanics, applied mathematics and computer science.
Dr. Waisman obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (1999, 2002) and a Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2005), with concentration in Computational Mechanics. During his PhD he spent three summers as an intern at the Computer Science Research Institute (CSRI) at Sandia National Labs. He was a post-doctoral fellow in the Scientific Computing Research Center (SCOREC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2006) and in the Mechanical Engineering department at Northwestern University (2007).
Dr. Waisman is the recipient of the 2012 Department of Energy Early Career Award, the 2014 Leonardo Da Vinci Award from the Engineering Mechanics Institute of ASCE, and several best paper awards. He is currently serving as an associate editor of the ASCE journal of Engineering Mechanics, an elected member of the executive council of US Association for Computational Mechanics. He was also the past chair of the ASCE-EMI computational mechanics committee.
