Here's another sight that would probably not have been seen a few years before, a public demonstration by hunger-striking Ukrainian Catholics, whose church was outlawed by Stalin. We saw all kinds of demonstrations when we were there. There were always uniformed KGB in attendence (like the one in the hat) but they didn't do anything. Often people wanted to have their pictures taken with them and the officers usually obliged.
