The rise of modern industry
has led mankind into the most developed age in history. New advances in technology
in conjuction with the decline in natural resources have led to more competitive, leaner, cost-effective
methods of manufacturing. As competition increases in a global manufacturing economy,
manufacturing will need to be quicker, cheaper, and more resourceful.
The purpose of the Columbia University Manufacturing Association
is to analyze the manufacturing industry in general, furthering
members knowledge across a broad spectrum of manufacturing issues
including but not limited to: manufacturing plants, warehousing,
shipping, technology, sales, etc. We strive to delve into the depths
of the manufacturing enterprise and further our expertise of this
amazing, business-oriented sector. We dedicate ourselves to becoming
better manufacturers and manufacturing consultants by learning
from others in the industry, from touring facilities, and by examining
better practices.
CUMA has partnered with various businesses and regional chambers
of commerce around the greater New York and New Jersey area. We work
closely with the executive directors of the chambers and a range of
business/manufacturing development organizations to find suitable and
worthwhile manufacturing operations to examine, tour, and analyze.
The implications of advanced technology
with repect to yield improvements, cost reductions and productivity
increases are things with which CUMA is heavily involved. You will find
that small improvements on core business processes lead to a stronger,
more profitable company.
