Evolution: Creating a New Consciousness
Revolution is happening in our respective communities. This movement is not just a wave against tradition but a revolving door in cycle and rotation. It seems as if the more we progress as a movement, the more stagnant and unchanged the system becomes. How do we break out of this cycle? As each community moves at a different rate, it becomes more and more important to recognize these unique struggles that make up our individual communities. More importantly, we need to recognize the common bond that links us together as a greater community beyond class, ethnic, gender, and sexual lines. For ECASU 2001, we draw strength from this bond and pull our focus towards evolution. Advances in the social, political, and economic struggle and a clear, strong voice for the entire Asian Pacific American community are our dreams for the future. To achieve these aspirations, we must examine our perception of who we are, where we stand, and how we live on a daily basis. We need to remember and appreciate the work and struggles of the past, recognize our strong history, crtically deconstruct our current situations, and move forward as one body. Only through this process of proactive self-examination can we can break from the cycle and create progress.
