David Harris Cohen, an associate curator of decorative arts at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu, Calif., died on Sunday at the Midway Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 43 years old and lived in Los Angeles.

He died of AIDS-related causes, said his companion, Dale E. Thumma.



Mr. Cohen was born in New York City, graduated from Wesleyan University and held an M.A. from Columbia University. From 1978 to 1980, he worked in the department of Western European sculpture and decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. He joined the Getty Museum in 1982 and was named associate curator five years ago.

Besides Mr. Thumma, he is survived by his father, Dr. Jules Cohen of Manhattan; a brother, Dr. Michael Cohen of Mobile, Ala., and a sister, Dr. Linda Cohen of Boston.
