SHAWN MCGARRY DIES; WAS DEACON


Shawn McGarry of New Haven, a counselor, church deacon, graduate student and the son of Hartford City Councilman Michael T. McGarry, died Thursday at home of AIDS. He was 26.

Mr. McGarry lived in Hartford before moving to New Haven nine years ago.

He received his bachelor's degree from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and was pursuing his master's degree in social work at Columbia University in New York.

Mr. McGarry was a counselor for the Planned Parenthood facility in New Haven and was a deacon at the Metropolitan Community Church, also in New Haven.

He also was the featured speaker at the 1993 World AIDS Day Service at Trinity Church in New Haven, sponsored by AIDS Project-New Haven.

Besides his father and his mother, Marguerite McGarry, of Hartford, he is survived by his companion, James T. Fennelly, at home; his brother, Mick McGarry, at home; his grandmother, Nathalie Feaster of Beacon, N.Y.; and other relatives and friends.
