THE CITY BEHIND THE WALL

The site is located in East Harlem between 104th and 110th Streets and Park and 3rd Avenues.

I am proposing the creation of a new special district within the area that today is hidden behind a wall; the heart of the Hispanic Harlem.

A little fortress city surrounded by an invisible wall.

I propose a place for public art exhibition, a Plaza of Rock, a Plaza for Chess, a Square for the Children, a Green Block, a Museum of Video, and a Block for the arts. These are some of the public spaces which link a pedestrian network that breaks the grid pattern.

In order to increase the site's density and change its character to that of a village I am adding some new small scale commercial buildings. These buildings also form programmatic links between the blocks.
