JKA Columbia University

Seek Perfection of character, be faithful, endeavour, respect others and refrain from violent behaviour

Training Information

We generally follow the Columbia academic schedule, although we often train during short breaks such as spring break. See the home page for our schedule this semester. On other days and holidays, training is available at Sensei Mori's main dojo in Manhattan or, for Brooklyn residents, at the Brooklyn dojo. Interested women can check out the Women's Center Karate Club in midtown Manhattan.

Beginners are always welcome, regardless of previous martial arts experience. If you have never trained in Shotokan karate before, please try at least three classes before you decide whether to keep training. If you don't have a gi (karate uniform), please wear loose clothing -- like a T-shirt and shorts/sweats -- for training. If you are interested in purchasing a gi, please see one of the instructors.

Dues

Dues are $65 per semester, to pay for instruction. We do not wish to turn people away for financial reasons, however. Those who are unable to pay dues should speak with the instructor or senior students.
