Lost and Missing

CHECKING-OUT PRESUMED LOST ITEMS TO KNOWN LOST

  1. PURPOSE

  2. PROCEDURES

    Determine whether the patron has acknowledged that the item is lost.

    1. If the patron has acknowledged that the item is lost:

      1. Follow CLIO Manual Procedures for adding notes to patron accounting records.

      2. Input a note like this: Patron confirmed that item is lost; item checked-out to known lost on xx/xx/xx.

      3. Check-in the item.

      4. If any holds exist, follow CLIO Manual procedures for cancelling a hold when the item is already checked-in.

      5. Check-out the item to KNOWN LOST.

    2. If the patron has not acknowledged that the item is lost:

      1. Follow CLIO Manual Procedures for adding notes to patron accounting records.

      2. Input a note like this: Patron did not respond to overdue notices; item checked-out to known lost on xx/xx/xx.

      3. If any holds exist, follow CLIO Manual procedures for cancelling a hold when the item is not yet checked-in.

      4. Check-out the item to KNOWN LOST.
