Items with the item condition set to NRTN appear on the next NRTN/Not Found Action List. Therefore, setting an item condition to NRTN will:

• Initiate the replacement/withdrawal review process for an item which is checked-out to a patron but is now known to be lost (because the patron has acknowledged the loss)

• Initiate the replacement/withdrawal review process for an item which is checked-out to MISSING because you have decided that it would be desirable to do so at this time

Do not use the NRTN (or NOWD) item conditions for items already checked-out to the PRESUMED LOST pseudopatron. Instead, check-out these items out to the KNOWN LOST pseudopatron.

1. Determine whether any recalls or holds exist; if necessary, follow the CLIO Manual procedures for cancelling a recall or hold when the item is not yet checked-in.

2. Follow CLIO Manual procedures for setting an item condition to NRTN.
