Archives Portal Phase I Description
The portal's search system
provides:
- Cross-repository search and
retrieval of cataloging metadata,
including descriptions, notes,
subjects and added entries;
- Cross-repository browsing
by creator / collector, subject,
and collection title
- Single-repository searching
and browsing
- Keyword result set filtering
by repository, subject or name
based on content analysis of
result set;
- [to come] Full-text search
and retrieval of information
from the full finding aids or
collection guides.
'Home pages' are created
for each individual archival
collection. They:
- are derived from archival
collection catalog records extracted
from CLIO
- include links to finding aids,
whenever available
- include links to any specialized
collection guides development
by archives staff or to external
publications relating to the
collection
- include links to any available
digitized collection content
The portal is updated:
- each time a CLIO collection
level catalog record is created
or updated
- each time a new finding aid
is created and linked to a catalog
record

The portal makes use of the following
technologies:
- Lucene (open source full-text
index and search tool)
- Solr (open source search
server)
- JSon (lightweight data
interchange format)
- Ajax (tool for interactive
web-page development)
- EAD (encoded archival
description)
- XML, XSLT
