Tasks:


Task 2006-01:   Phase 1 "Archival Collections Portal"

Goal:  Finalize development and implementation of LWEB interface to CUL archival collections

Task 2006-02:  Evaluate Archon and Archivist's Toolkit

Goal:  Test and evaluate Archon and Archivist's Toolkit as possible EAD finding aid input and update tools

Steps:

  1. Install software on CUL machines (done 11/06)
  2. Develop test plan
  3. Identify appropriate test data sets
  4. Carry out testing
  5. Review with Avery, Burke, HSL staff
  6. Make recommendation for operational use at CUL

Task 2006-03:  Migrate ProCite Finding Aids into EAD

Goal:   Bring full set of RBML existing 'legacy' ProCite finding aids into EAD

Steps: 

  1. Provide ProCite files to LDPD (done, 11/06)
  2. Develop requirements for conversion to EAD
  3. Perform conversion and make available to RBML for review and editing (e.g., in Oxygen)
  4. Republish to LWEB in new format

Task 2006-04:  Develop CUL / EAD Content Model

Goal:  Implement CUL adaptation of EAD / RLG finding aid content guidelines

Steps: 

  1. Create draft guidelines w/ examples (in process, 11/06)
  2. Review with Avery, Burke, HSL staff
  3. Determine whether single or multiple 'models' are needed
  4. Revise, finalize and post to SWIFT
  5. Develop prospective & retrospective implementation strategies

Task 2006-05:  Revise CUL Finding Aid Look & Feel

Goal:  Revise CUL standard for finding aids "look and feel" and update existing XSLT finding aids to generate

Steps:

  1. Review previous look & feel guidelines
  2. Revise as needed (in progress, 11/06)
  3. Review with Avery, Burke, HSL staff
  4. Determine with single or multiple standards are needed
  5. Mock up one or more designs
  6. Submit for CUL usability testing
  7. Finalize new standard & post to SWIFT
  8. Adapt XLST scripts to generate

Task 2006-06:  Convert Remaing Paper Finding Aids

Goal:  Complete conversion of remaining RBML finding aids ("big binders") to PDF

Steps: 

  1. Finish and QC inventory of remaining paper finding aids
  2. Review issues, options, problems
  3. Prepare and issue scanning RFP for conversion to PDF
  4. Integrate into "collection home page" display and search system

Task 2006-08:    Enhance Collection Home pages to include images, links to article, etc. (to come)
