Baraka Collection Digitization

Path: Digital Library Projects  : RBML Projects

In 2008 Columbia University Libraries acquired the papers of the poet and playwright. Running to nearly 1,000 linear feet of correspondence, manuscripts, notebooks, research files, photographs, and audio and video tapes, the Baraka Papers form a huge and hugely important archive on the life and career of one of America’s most important and most controversial figures.

An NEH grant is being prepared to process the collection and to digitize up to 3,000 pages of letters, notebook and other manuscript content. In addition, at risk audio/visual material in the collection (e.g., reel-to-reel tapes, 16mm film) will be digitized for preservation purposes.
