RLIN PUT COMMAND

Record Creation Procedures

PROCEDURES

RLIN records may be exported into CLIO. This document covers both the export of new records and the overlay of existing CLIO records.

  1. If you plan to overlay a preliminary or acquisitions record in CLIO, enter the RLIN ID of the record you plan to use into an 035 field in the CLIO record. This RLIN ID must be deleted from the CLIO record after the overlay has taken place.

Go to 035 Field Summary for more information

    Example:

    035::(CStRLIN)NYCXADB165-B

  2. In RLIN, search for the record to export (if you have entered its ID into a CLIO record, search for it by that ID number) and verify that the correct record is displayed.

    1. Check the RLIN record for the presence of 035 fields.

      1. 035 field is not present. Proceed to step III below.

      2. 035 field is present and consists of some kind of record ID number preceded by a library's institution code in parentheses, e.g.:

        035 (CU)GLAD168111215

        035 (NIC)notisAKX5894

        035 (OCoLC)24847167

        035 (CStRLIN)NYUG82-B27188

        Proceed to step III below.

      3. 035 field is present and contains generic coding, e.g.:

        035 MLC 1992

        · 035 c

        · 035 (NNU)ARCIFAM1

        · 035(NNC)RECON

        · 035(TW)

Before proceeding to step III, search CLIO for the coding contained in the 035 field in RLIN using a "no" search, e.g.:

        fi no MLC 1992

        1. If the CLIO search retrieves only one record, delete the 035 field from the CLIO record in order to avoid overlaying this CLIO record with the record you will export from RLIN. Proceed to step III below.

        2. If the CLIO search retrieves more than one record, leave the 035 fields in the CLIO records. There is no danger of an inadvertent overlay. Proceed to step III below.

  3. Type put at the input line and press enter
