was read and referred to the Street Commissioner.

A petition that another room may be assigned to the Justices of the
Marine Court as a Court room was read and referred to the Committee
on Public Offices.

A complaint of the course of the Gutter in Front Street was re¬
ferred to the Street Committee and Street Commissioner.

A petition of Henry M. Van Solinger for permission to construct
a Vault in front of No. 51 Cedar Street was granted on the usual terms
under direction of the Street Commissioner.

A petition for a Well & Pump in Carmine St. and for one near
Herring Street were referred to the Alderman & Assistant of the Ward
and [11] Street Commissioner to report an Ordinance therefor.

A petition of Elizabeth Gardner for herself and Elizabeth Doan
praying that the houses Nos. 60 and 62 in Harman Street may not in
the contemplated widening of Grand Street be removed until next
spring was read and referred to the Street Committee.

A Petition of William J. Furman for permission to remove a frame
house from Roosevelt Street to a lot in Batavia Lane both situations
being within the Fire Limits was referred to the Counsel for his opin¬
ion as to the legality of such removal.

A petition of Elijah Guion was received, stating that he is possessed
of an undivided right in lot No. 32 Oliver Street upon which an As¬
sessment is laid for opening said Street, that measures are now taking
for a settlement of the right in said lot [12] and praying an extension
of time for payment of said Assessment, which was read and referred
to the Finance Committee.

A petition of Robert Thorburn for appointment of Measurer of
Grain and a similar petition from Jacob Brinckerhoflf were read and
referred to the Committee on Applications.

A petition of John Kent for a Stall in Corlaer's Hook market: of
George Paff for Stall No. 2 Essex Market: of Frederick Hegel for a
stand to sell Sausages in Washington Market and of Joseph Lawrence,
occupant of Stall No. 45 Catharine Market for permission to transfer
the same for a few months during an absence from this City were
severally read and referred to the Market Committee.

A petition from Daniel Marsh and others, butchers, was received
stating that they have been a long time in the habit of using certain
[13] patent scales for weighing meat in the market which have not
hitherto been objected to by the former Sealers of Weights and Meas¬
ures ; that the present Sealer Joseph P. Simpson has informed them
