AN exhibition of the writings of Stephen Crane was opened at
^lTA. Butler Library on September 17th. Consisting of letters, auto¬
graph manuscripts (including that of The Red Badge of Courage),
and first editions of all of Crane's books as well as clippings of news¬
paper articles and first magazine appearances of many short stories,
the exhibition was selected from the joint wealth of the Columbia
Crane Collection and that of C. Waller Barrett, which he gen-
erously lent for the occasion. Shown above is a portrait of Crane
painted by Corwin Knapp Linson, from the Barrett Collection.
