Activities of the Friends
 

Stephen Crane evening. The first meeting of the new academic
year will be held in the Rotunda of Low AJemorial Library at
8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, with a program centered
around Stephen Crane, the novelist, short story writer, and jour¬
nalist who is best known today as the author of The Red Badge of
Courage. Professor R. W. Stallman of the University of Ccmnecti-
cut, who edited Stephen Crane: an Omnibus, will be the principal
speaker.

For the occasion some of the most important items in the Stephen
Crane exhibit (which is referred to elsewhere in this issue) will be
brought to the Rotunda for viewing by our members.

Annual meeting in January. At the "Annual AJceting," which
will be held in the Rotunda of Low iMemorial Library at 8:30
p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, AJrs. John Erskine will present
to the Libraries her late husband's collection. The program will be
preceded by a short business meeting. Further details will be an¬
nounced later.

Bancroft Award dinner. For the benefit of members who wish
at this time to make note of the date, the annual Bancroft Award
dinner is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, April 23. Invitations
will be mailed in late AJarch.
