[Fr07n the official p7'0ceedings of the Boa7'd of Assist¬
ant Alde^-men, Oct. 12,1874.]

The Special Committee appointed bv this Board in
relation to the use of vault covers ou" the sidewalks
throughout the city, beg leave to report that the com¬
mittee have taken pains' to examine the diflerent vault
covers at present being put down ou the sidewalks, and
find that the " Sharts' Patent Concrete Covers," on sale
at 263 Broadway, appear to answer the requirements of
the ordinance completely, AA'ithout any of the ob¬
jectionable features of the iron covers. We have exam¬
ined some of them that haA'e been in use on our princi¬
pal thoroughfares during the last two years, showing
little or no perceptible Avear, and Ave would recommend
them to our citizens in preference to any others Ave have
yet seen.
