of tbe Law Committee tbat the purcbasers of East t^ide lands eilher
complete their purchase within thirty days b.v paying the flO per
cent due or forfeit tbe 10 per ceut already paid. AJdernien Cohn,
Volluiet- and Gnilfovlc were appointed a special committee to inves¬
tigate the charges that favoritism bas been shown coutractors iu tbe
City Works Departmenlby allowing thom to withdraw bids aud put
in others. The investigation is requested by Commissioner White,
of that department. Tbe Board bas decided to pave tbe following
atrects with Ihe material aud ac tbe several costs named, as follows:
Snedeker avenue, from Liberty to Dumont avenue, Belgian block,
$29,500: Walton street, fiom Broadway to Wall street, Belgian

The asaociation for the improvement of Atlantic avenue bas dis->
covered a contractor wbo will iiudertake the removal of the water
pipea and sewers uuder Atiautic avemie for $250,000, should the
pending bill for the dopressiou of tbe Long lalaudEailroad tracks be
passed. Mayor Schieren says that the city -will uot pay tbis sum in
additiou to the $1,000,000 appropriated as its portiou in tbe bill.
The railroad compauy also declines to be responsible for the work.
