What kind of person was he?
Oh, charming. We did his little book, Personal Portraits. It didn't set the world on fire.
Well, could you describe him at all? Sometimes it's interesting to describe these people.
He was a young Englishman obviously going places. Charming. He didn't have any money, but he was staying at the Ritz. And there was something about a boy who would live in this little horrible room just so he could say he was staying at the Ritz, a young Englishman just here for the first time-- that had a hint of what was in store for him.
Did you continue a relationship?
Indeed--but by the time Random House got going, Doubleday had him sewed up!
Did you come into contact with Eugene O'Neill at all?
Often!
Could you give some stories at all? Did you go out with him in the evening?
