captions. One said: “Koch, Elected with Conservative Support” -- something like that. And then it talks about the liberals and so forth but the fact is that conservatives like me.
Is he talking about people whose political orientations is conservative or actual Conservative party members?
No, I meant the philosophical concept. It explains that conservatives like me even though they don't agree with all my positions or many of my positions.
Then the next headline was even better from a political point of view. I don't have it exactly in mind but it goes something like this: “Ed Koch, Most Well-Liked and Most Effective Congressman in New York Delegation.” That provided a little problem for me in the New York delegation. If he had said, “one of the most well-liked, one of the msot effective,” then the others would have said, “Well, I'm the other.” But when he said, “the most,” it got them pissed because it meant that they were less. It caused a lot of agony for me. I loved it, but it caused a lot of agony.
Anyway, I couldn't get it across -- didn't have the money for television or radio, knew that I couldn't raise any more than the $100,000 we had raised and spent -- did not want to go into debt. I'm not going to take the modest resources that I
