doesn't care and is proud of helping the party candidate. But you can't depend on that. I suspect I won't be spending that much money this time. But that again will depend on who's going to be running against me. At this moment I don't know who that is.

Q:

Was that $80,000 campaign your most expensive one?

Koch:

No. In the first election we spent a total of $100,000 or maybe $98,000. We spent $80,000 plus about $12,000 for the primary. That's the most expensive we've ever had. But the total was a little over 90 because of the primary.

Q:

Could you comment a little more on your fund-raising? How do you go about it? What kind of people support you financially?

Koch:

Well, I'm really not into the statistics, and what I'm saying may not be accurate, but this is my gut reaction based on what I think happens, because I don't raise the money. I'm terrible as a fund-raiser and I leave it to the campaign treasurer and the people who want to help me. David Margolis has become a very good friend of mine. He's now on that Emergency Mayoralty Board. I said to him when he was appointed: “I couldn't make it, David, but you did. You're one-seventh mayor now.” He was my chairman in one of my campaigns. has always provided funding. The maximum he ever gave was $4000,
