So he got a little upset. I said, “You know, it is said that you put on the internal passbooks the word which in Arabic means Sons of Moses, so that these people have problems; and they are not allowed to emigrate when others are allowed to go out.” He denied it all. He said, “They have the exact same rights. If a Syrian who isn't Jewish can emigrate, they can emigrate.” Okay.

I tell the story because he also mentioned that he was going to be in Washington the following week when we were returning, the week after Labor Day as a delegate to the International Monetary Fund. And I happened to be a delegate to the International Monetary Fund. My technical title was adviser, I believe. Bill Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, had put me on that committee. So I just stored that in my head, and the following week when we returned (I think we returned the day before Labor Day, and this was the Tuesday after Labor Day), I go to Washington. The Congress was not in session, and I go right to the International Monetary Fund. I had no intention of going there because those things are generally very boring. There's a big room; I think it's in the Sheraton Park Hotel -- maybe a thousand people sitting at tables representing different countries. I get a map and I find out where the Syrian table is and go right over to the Syrian table, and there's Dr. Ammadi sitting by himself. So I go over and I say, “Hi, Doctor, remember
