Lasker:

Yes. And my friends were a girl called Pauline Pabst...

Q:

Of the beer family?

Lasker:

Yes, yes, a charming girl. And another was a very lively and talented girl called Ellen Gould later, who was a musician and who was one of the best piano players I ever heard in my life, one of the best entertainers, who has had a very sad life but whose life was very lively at that time. She was a great friend.

Q:

Is Milwaukee D still in existence?

Lasker:

Oh, yes. It's a day school for local Milwaukee girls whose families don't want them to go to the high schools and a boarding school for people in the area.

Q:

When your family sent you there, did you mind being away from home?

Lasker:

Well, I must say I was terribly bored as a little child; from the time I was about three or four I recall being bored and not having enough to do that interested me. And also I was ill a lot. It seems to me that boredom was very frequent with me, until
