an amendment to put it back to 50 million dollars. The amendment passed the Senate.

I think the House compromise was 25 million, and then it went to 50 million, and it is now much, much larger. (Jane, please look in the budget to see what the section on housing for the aged has.) I don't know what the exact figure is but it has gone up spectacularly.

I'd like to comment further on the effort that we made on the section of the bill concerned with housing for older people. I'm quoting from a letter that I received from David Lloyd. He says:

“I'm firmly of the opinion that Joe MacMurray rendered perfectly invaluable service on this whole affair to Johnson, Sparkman and the House Committee and others, and that if it had not been for him, the measure pending now would be a spireless, useless wonder, with nothing in it except what Eisenhower wants. If the present bill gets passed and signed, and Eisenhower will have to sign if he doesn't want to drive the building industry into a decline, it will be a real tribute to MacMurray and probably your most significant contribution to the general welfare for the whole session. (Don't tell Gorman this, as I am sure he thinks health is more important and perhaps you do, too.)”

Well, now, I'd like to discuss our activities on the desalinization of water field. After my husband died, I was very anxious to do something that I thought would be unique in his
