a wartime effort which was extremely useful. Weed's office was responsible for the financing and development of the preventative drugs and the curative drugs against malaria, and they came up with drugs which changed the whole malaria picture at the end of the war. In any case, the prevention and cure of malaria was largely accomplished through this small research office.

And this was largely due to the need in the South Pacific.

Lasker:

Yes, it was very acute.
