What was the doctor's rejoinder?
The doctor was astonished that the Senator was very astonished as he had been very proud that they had never asked for more money.
He felt it was entirely adequate.
He felt it should be entirely adequate, but gradually as he found the Senator thought more should be asked for, he gradually took the attitude that they would ask for more. But it took the Public Health Service quite a little time to turn around on this.
What other senators were involved in these hearings?
I don't recall that there were any other senators present. It was a subcommittee, and Pepper was the major person interested. I don't recall any other senators being present. He had some staff and that was it.
