that's very significant, but the net of it is we didn't get the money.

Q:

How does it affect the high blood pressure programs that are underway in New York City and in the various states?

Lasker:

Well, in New York City we got a million dollars from the City Council thanks to the help of Congressman Richmond, who was here today and has gone off on a visit. And the minute we got it, within three months they took 75% of the million dollars away. But there's still a problem going presumably at Green Point and at Hospital, and there is more interest on the part of the city in high blood pressure. But the city is in such a catastrophic financial situation that it's practically futila to talk to anybody about it.

Q:

Alice was busy in the state, though.

Lasker:

Well, Alice is in the city and in the state, and we've talked to city officials. We had lunch with , the head of the new york city Hospital corporation, Thursday and he is interested; but he's just sustaining the most terrible cuts and he can't promise that anything new can be done. They're just reeling with the financial situation of the city. Isn't it shocking? But the exciting thing, Dr. ason, is that in the preliminary figures
