Let's see. I May I went to a charming dinner at Ambassador Zahedi's, the Iranian Ambassador to the United States, which he gave for Danny and Sylvia Kaye. I sat next to Mr. Kissinger, who was as diverting as ever and naturally extremely well-informed about everything.
Were you prepared for sitting next to him on this occasion?
No. I was not prepared. It would have been a better idea if I had been better prepared.
What was the occasion for honoring Danny Kaye?
No, just for fun. It was only fun. There was nothing serious about it.
In June, I received an honorary degree from Baylor Medical College.
What's this? A doctorate of --?
In Houston. This is as a result of my friend, Dr. DeBakey, who is president of Baylor. He thought I should be honored.
What's the degree?
Humane Letters, Doctor of Humane Letters.
Was Mrs. Johnson there for that occasion?
No. I don't know where Mrs. Johnson was, but it was extremely pleasant. And they gave a dinner the night before, which was charming, with many doctors and people from the community. It was very, very pleasant.
Did you have to make a response?
