Part:         Session:         Page of 999

When one does these things and makes these efforts, eventually something that makes sense happens, you know. It may take years, but eventually it will happen.

Q:

Well, you've had so much experience that you can --

Lasker:

Yes, I've had experience with it, and I've had experience with Pepper. Unfortunately, Pepper's wife is very ill with cancer and stroke, and he's distracted by her illness, and I'm hoping that it won't be so serious that he forgets the legislation. But I saw him this week, and he was very interested in it. Thank goodness.

Q:

Do you have some staunch friends in the White House?

Lasker:

Well, I had a friend, Dr. Peter Bourne, who has just gotten into a great deal of difficulty about having given a prescription for a very strong tranquillizing drug, and there are all kinds of rumors about his using pot and cocaine, and he has resigned from the White House. That's not very helpful.

Q:

No. And he was you --?

Lasker:

He was my friend. And is my friend. But it's realy a mess.

We did a release on New York State and heart deaths, which -- have you got it, or have I still got it?

(TAPE INTERRUPTION)

Q:

The release, which was June 5, was carried extensively in the State of New York.

Lasker:

Yes, and in New York City. It's a scandal that the death rate from heart is thirty per cent higher in the city
