diplomatic post. I got a chance to talk to him about that but didn't get anywhere with it, -- he decided not to take any other assignment. -- We went on marvelous rides all over the ranch in station wagons, with the President driving and with FBI following us in another station wagon, and with antelope and deer rushing ahead of us and wild turkeys. This marvelous wild rocky high country, and sometimes you come to a lovely grove of flowering caeti. They have a special name, high stem with lovely bell-shaped white cactus flowers, beautiful. The President enjoys . It rests him, it changes his pace. The only other people were there with him from the outside were the Krims. Liz Carpenter was there for a couple of nights, and Bess Abel. The last night I was really there alone with the Johnson and Jim Jones and Marie his secretary. We went again to Austin to see the sights of the library and had luncheon in Austin. Mrs. Johnson was seeing people who were interested in developing the university and in the library. We made a marvelous visit to the library of the University of Texas with the president of the university, who really loves autographed letters and . They had some very interesting 18th century American letters and a lot of contemporary English literary figures were well
