Yes.

Oakes:

Yes. I did. I certainly must have been mindful of that fact that as Daniel's -- I think I said earlier Rosenthal, but I guess it was Daniel's representative, at one or two meetings of the committee -- of which I was chairman, to discuss the Op-Ed page -- Harrison representing the news department, as he made very clear, was very reserved in his approach to the Op-Ed page.

Q:

What do you mean by that?

Oakes:

Well, I have somewhere the memo of that particular meeting, at which he expressed his reservations. I'm sorry. I don't think I have that memo in my hand.

Q:

That would be a good one to get.

Oakes:

I know there is such a memorandum in my files. I can't tell you precisely how he expressed his reservations, but I know, very definitely that he did -- and he made it very clear -- as representative of the news department. So I guess I wasn't overly keen about that. I also wasn't sure in my own mind that Harrison would approach the job in the more restrained way that I had in mind for it. I think, on this point, my concern was justified. Yet, I have to say, when Harrison did take on the job and did go much further out on certain limbs than I would have, in a few cases did this without consulting me on it, I think he probably --
