  New Moment Web Site Launched
New Slicker Interface Increases User Productivity
  By Brian Leibowitz

This December will mark the second anniversary of The Moment's world wide web home page, and their third generation web page will help them celebrate in style!

Since its launch, the Moment web site has enjoyed great success and remained unchallenged as the premiere on-line student newspaper at Columbia University. However, despite the void of competition, the Moment web team never tires of innovation.

The on-line version of the newspaper was first overhauled in November 1995 to give it a more intuitive feel as well as new features, such as a search engine.

This second overhaul further improves on what was started a year ago. The graphical interface has been made even more consistent, with a strong emphasis on "clickability" and navigation. One new feature immediately apparent is the innovative use of frames. The Moment has implemented a discrete borderless frame for its navigation menu for the first time. The unique thing about this bar is that the user can place it either on the bottom or the edge of the browser window to maximize space efficiency on expensive monitor real estate.

Another design innovation that has appeared since the previous version is a consistently implemented color scheme, which consists of Columbia blue, a more sturated version of Columbia blue, as well as a complementary yellow and two shades of grey for miscellaneous shading.

Compared with the first issue put on line in December 1994, it is obvious that the Moment electronic publication team knows the true meaning of "You've come a long way baby!"
