Statement

I am interested in the opportunities that Tibetan films and films about Tibet afford us to analyze notions of self-representation via the creation of an Other who is always linked with 'us'. I have done research on film produced by the mainland China industry about Tibet and Xinjiang, as well as about films of the emergent Tibetan creators, such as Padma Tseden. In the case of Prince of the Himalayas, the original Western text forces us to include a third vector in the equation, which creates a product of high interest in the present context of globalized circulation.
