Toward Reconcilition - Columbia University NYC

History @ Toward Reconciliation

Toward Reconciliation was conceived in the spring of 2002 by Columbia University students who sought to counteract the growing polarization they perceived on campus regarding conflict in the Middle East. As the situation in that region became more dire, meaningful discussion and engagement on campus deteriorated into heated arguments and divisive rhetoric. Intent on reversing this destructive course, the founders of Toward Reconciliation began to develop a comprehensive program that would rekindle constructive dialogue and spark innovative student-led approaches to conflict resolution.

Although the need for such a program was evinced by the crisis in the Middle East, it remained clear that other regions of conflict demand the same attention. Toward Reconciliation, with its universal goal of conflict resolution, aims to address conflict resolution on a global scale as we move forward.
