THYMOTHEE1. Timotheus, fl. second century B.C., was one of the Seleucid generals sent by Antiochus Epiphanes to quell the revolt of the Judaean Jews in 161 B.C. Judah Maccabee routed the Seleucid army, a defeat that led to the death of Antiochus (II Maccabee 8, 9).

The Monk mentions the general Thymothee in his story of Antiochus's fall, MkT 2591-2593. [Anthiochus: Machabee: Nichanore2]

Thymothee occurs in final rhyming position, MkT 2591.
