The Karamon Gate, with the Yomei’mon, make up the most important structures at Nikko.  This gate is not done in the typical Chinese style, as is indicated by the strong curve of the gables and the inlaid sculpture on its surfaces.

The designers of the Karamon seemed to focus most on the bold and unconventional shapes of its structural framework.  The Karamon is considered much more daring than the Yomei’mon, and thus perhaps much more of a success.
