Architecture brought two new functions to the residence of the samurai.
These two functions, though closely related, were derived out of necessity.
As part of the daily obligations of the samurai, formal and informal gathering
spaces for Entertainment purposes were
needed. Also, as part of an appreciation for beauty and possessions, as
well as a symbol of status, the need for Display
spaces were arose.
