For this three-paragraph essay, compare and contrast Sassen�s chapter on Global Cities to Barbara Wallraff�s article on Global English. Choose one section of Sassen�s chapter and examine her style and modes of argument before comparing her methodology to that of Wallraff�s. How do their different styles of argument reflect their different purposes? What conception do you get of globalization from the two accounts? Note in particular their use of keywords and specialized rhetoric in how they structure their arguments.

The French critic Roland Barthes uses a comparison between wine and milk to reflect upon the opposite natures of French and American culture. What are some other relevant myths that pervade our culture today? In a three-part essay, divide and classify two myths that represent contrasting perspectives in American culture. Organize them according to a system that reveals how they function in society. You might consider the following questions in formulating your essay: How are they used or distributed? What do they represent? How necessary is their opposition to their overall significance?
