| Neoplasia |
The suffix "oma" means "tumor of" and can be applied to a host of tumors (or neoplasms) by combining it with the appropriate cell of origin (e.g., fibroma, lipoma). Use of terms ending only in "oma" is indicative of benign tumors, while the addition of the prefix carcin (as in carcinoma) or sarc (as in sarcoma) indicates a malignant tumor.
