| Repair and Physiologic Adaptive Responses |
Following cell and tissue injury, repair occurs by a number of mechanisms, including resolution (restoration of the native architecture and tissue), production of granulation tissue (if there is a large loss of tissue substance after injury), and scarring (production of fibrous tissue). There are also physiologic adaptive responses such as hyperplasia, hypertrophy, atrophy, metaplasia and dysplasia which occur in a variety of clinical and pathological settings.
