Psy 3210, Language and Cognition, Fall 2001
Directions for using the course CUBboard
- Go to
https://www1.columbia.edu/sec/bboard/013/psyc3210-001/
- (Note the initial 'https' rather than 'http')
- You will be asked to enter a username and password. This should
be your uni login and password. If you are registered for the course,
you should have access to the bulletin board. Let me know ASAP
if you cannot access the board.
- To post your comment for the week:
- Determine the correct subject for the week. This should always
be 'Week X', where X is the current week (e.g., for the Sapir-Whorf
hypothesis, the subject would be 'Week 4'). Note that the subject
is case-sensitive - make sure to enter "Week 4" and not "week 4".
- Either:
- click on a current posting with that subject, and then click
"Post A Follow-Up Message"; the subject will be filled in correctly
- or click on the "New Posting" link; be sure to enter Week
4, or the appropriate week, as the subject.
- Enter your comment into the field BELOW subject. You can compose
your message in Word or some similar program. Then copy the text,
click in the box in the posting form, and paste your text.
- For guidelines on preparing your comments, see this page.
- To post a test message:
- Follow the above instructions to post a message to the "Test postings"
thread; the subject must be "Test postings"
- Keep in mind:
- Everyone in the class will be able to
read your comments about the readings. If you do not
want to post your writing publicly, you may send it to me via email.
However, I hope you will post most, if not all, of your comments
to the bulletin board.
- The default order of postings is by date. Click on the 'threaded
index' link to see a hierarchical listing by topic.
- Other uses for the CUBboard
- The main purpose of the bulletin board is to allow everyone to
post their weekly writing assignments, but other uses may emerge,
for example:
- You could post clarification questions that your classmates
might be able to answer
- You could post additional comments and have on-line discussions
before or after class
- But keep in mind:
- Be polite and respectful when replying
to someone else's comments; don't say anything on the bulletin
board you wouldn't say face-to-face.
- If you post something other than your weekly writing assignment,
please do not use 'Week X' as the subject (though you could
use something like, 'Questions about Week X', or "Re: Week X').
