There are four forms of evaluation: a final exam, a midterm, problem sets, and the newspaper article. The weighting scheme is:
Problem Sets There will be six problem sets. Note that there are no late
submissions; a late is a zero. Group Assignments Individuals
will be assigned into groups. Each group will be given their topic two to three
weeks prior to their presentation date (dates will be spread throughout the
term). The group is responsible for making a 45 minute in-class presentation,
followed by a 15 minute question-and-answer period. The group must submit a
written (sentences and paragraphs, one to two page) brief, which summarizes
their presentation. The briefs will be forwarded to me two days before the
presentation. Presentations will be
judged on content (well-informed use of the appropriate economic concepts) and
presentation (diction, rhetoric, locution). You will also be graded on your
participation in other groups’ presentations. Term Paper A list of topics will be distributed in class. The paper should be at most 9 pages including figures, tables, and references. This is a policy paper, not a research paper. The primary aim is to offer an economic analysis of the issue using the concepts you know. Research may help to flesh out details, but should not be the basis of your analysis. |
