RESEARCH

Cross-national Research

My main cross-national research project is entitled Making and Committing to Peace: Political Vulnerability and Civil War Termination"--a cross-national data collection project on all civil war fought between 1960 and 2011. A key objective of this project is to gather systematic and fine-grained data on civil war protagonists, especially the less explored aspects of rebel groups' organizational structures and governance systems, to enable proper empirical testing of theories of civil war duration and termination. The project also seeks to collect new systematic data on postwar social and political processes as well as on the activities of third-party actors (e.g., UN peacekeeping, international NGOs) in these processes.

Collection of quantitative data for this project has been completed. Data analysis is currentl under way.

My other cross-national project is entitled Explaining Patterns of Peacekeeping Operations by the United Nations and Regional Organizations. This project explores the patterns of peacekeeping operations and division of labor in the management of civil wars between the United Nations and regional Organizations.
