On the road to somewhere, a bunch of M114 APCs stopped for a break. Every
few months the whole 3rd ACR would travel to some forest far away for
maneuvers that lasted a week or two, everybody sleeping in pup tents (each
soldier carried a canvas "shelter half", and two together formed a pup tent
that two soldier could sleep in). By the way, tents and clothing and so
forth in those days were made of cotton The sleeping bag was cotton with
feather stuffing. Another curious aspect of this photo: most these guys, in
the 20s and 30s, have hair. In the 1960s it was very uncommon to see young
bald males, now it seems most males lose their hair before 40. Have you
noticed that?
