The Haus zum Türken in Obersalzberg. The Türkenhaus was a popular resort hotel until it was taken over in 1933 by the German government because it was next door to the Berghof, Hitler's house. Göring, Bormann, Speer, and other prominent Nazis also had homes in the immediate area, in a compound that also included SS barracks, bunkers, etc — about 50 buildings in all — plus a network of tunnels. Most of these structures were badly damaged towards the end of the war. The remains of the Berghof and other Nazi residences were blown up by the Bavarian government in 1952. The Türkenhaus was also damaged by the bombing but it was rebuilt as a hotel after the war and reopened about 1950.
