Search the MED

Thank you for your interest in my search engine. Happily, it is now obsolete! The University of Michigan has launched a new, much-improved interface for the MED. This site will remain here for historical purposes, but it will no longer be maintained.

This is an alternative search engine for the University of Michigan's electronic Middle English Dictionary. Unlike the Dictionary's native search engine, this engine supports fuzzy queries (e.g., a search for abayen returns abāten, abaien, abeien, etc.).

Searching for special characters is also a tad more intuitive. All non-ASCII characters have been reduced in the index to the output of Sean Burke's Text::Unidecode Perl module. In particular:

All entries are property of the Regents of the University of Michigan; only headword and alternate form data are stored on this server.
